Come tread the boards!

A CALL is being made for budding thespians to take to the stage in a performance in Moffat.

The Old Well Theatre in the town is looking to sign up actors to take part in the theatre’s next production — The Pitmen Painters.

In January Jim McConnell presented his one man show, Geordie, to the people of Moffat who received it well.

This was a new venture for Jim, a long time and valued member of the Upper Annandale Dramatic Society.

He had never written a play before, and Geordie sprang from his interest in the area in which he was born, in the north east of England, his family’s mining background and Lee Hall’s acclaimed play, The Pitmen Painters.

Having read The Pitmen Painters — about a group of Ashington miners who hired a professor from Newcastle University to teach an art appreciation evening class and who went on to become celebrated artists themselves — Jim wanted to put it on.

Lee Hall’s play set in the 1930s is moving, humorous and thought provoking.

The theatre will be hosting play readings for anyone interested in taking part on Tuesday and Thursday next week at 7.30 pm.

The play will be performed in the last week of September.

For anyone interested, please contact Jim by email [email protected] or Norma Fears on 07804 656167, or just turn up.
