College recognised with highest rating
DUMFRIES and Galloway College has been awarded the highest possible rating by a leading review body who assures the quality of learning, teaching and support.
The college, which has campuses in Dumfries and Stranraer, was awarded top marks by The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) Tertiary Quality Enhancement Review (TQER), the new quality assurance and enhancement review system for further and higher education in Scotland.
Dumfries and Galloway College was rated “effective”, the highest rating achievable by TQER, across the quality of the student experience. Of note was the college’s culture of continuous improvement, responsiveness to student needs and learning and teaching development.
Principal Douglas Dickson said: “For Dumfries and Galloway College to be identified by two key reports in Scottish education reflects the professionalism and commitment of our staff, who work to provide high quality learning and teaching every day. These positive endorsements demonstrate confidence in our high quality provision and reinforces our commitment to high value education as demonstrated by our embedded culture of continuous improvement.
“I acknowledge the contributions of our students, partners and employers for their ongoing collaboration and support. Their involvement in the work of the college helps ensure that our curriculum remains relevant, responsive and aligned to the
needs of our regional economy."
The College, which this year celebrates 65 years of learning, also outperformed the national average in terms of the proportion of students successfully completing their qualification, according to the Scottish Funding Council’s College Student Outcomes 2024-25 report.
