City protests planned in care home dog row

TWO protests will take place this weekend in London and Edinburgh against the decision by an Ecclefechan care home to part one resident and his pet.

Supporters of Robert Harvey, who has lived at Burnfoot with his miniature schnauzer Darkie for ten years, will gather at the SNP headquarters in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon and simultaneously outside Westminster.
The organisers hope the action will force Mead Medica, who operate the care home, to change their stance after they gave Mr Harvey until Tuesday to get rid of his dog.
Campaign co-ordinator Arthur Shutter said: “We just want to help Bob.
“He is not fully aware of the amount of support that he has, so we want to show him, and to show Mead Medica that this has not gone away.”
Meanwhile, a petition started by the 87-year-old’s friends had yesterday attracted 217,052 signatures.
Commenting this week, Mr Harvey said: “As far as I am concerned, I am keeping this dog until I go.
“I am hoping to now get a place in Stanwix, I am hoping they will have a spot by April, this new place allows a dog.”
Mead Medica declined to comment.
