Christmas holiday food fund opens

GROUPS and organisations who want to help make Christmas better in their local community can now apply for festive funding.

Dumfries and Galloway Council has opened its Holiday Food Fund for applications from third sector organisations.

Bids can be made for funding towards the costs of food for pupils from P1 to S6 at existing or new projects taking place between Monday December 23 and Tuesday January 7.

The council will fund one meal per day per child, including on Christmas Day.

Councillor Andy Ferguson said: “We know that the Christmas holidays are one of the most challenging of all of our holiday times and that parents and carers are under more financial pressure at this time of year than any other. We want to make Christmas 2019 as enjoyable as possible and to help to ease the pressure on families and bring as much happiness as possible to children and young people who would otherwise be facing cold, hungry holidays before they returned to school.”

The closing date for applications is December 4 and more information can be found at www.dumgal.gov.uk/article/19751/School-Holiday-Food-Programme.
