Changing Royal Burgh’s Google image

THINK LOCHMABEN and what comes to mind?

The town is known for its iconic lochs and stunning views but a slightly different image of the Royal Burgh is being repeatedly portrayed online – thanks to Google Alerts.

People signed up to receive daily alerts about the town of Lochmaben are frequently in for a shock.

Alerts are constantly sent out promoting websites showcasing ‘swinging’ clubs in Lochmaben and other sordid sex activities and gatherings.

However, the links often lead to fake websites which have adopted Lochmaben in their titles.

Speaking on behalf of Lochmaben Community Council, vice chair Tony Hancock expressed shock at the online portrayal of Lochmaben and is calling for Google to do something about it.

He said: “The Community Council would request that strong representation is made to Google to have these alerts removed from the Internet.

“They portray a total distortion of Lochmaben, which is a town of stunning views, iconic lochs and of significant historical interest.”

Google were contacted but declined to comment on the issue.
