Change at the top for super school

THE head teacher of the £28 million Dumfries super school is to step down this month.

North West Community Council’s current head teacher Derryth Hope assumed control of the school in 2018 but she is leaving on November 25 for ‘personal reasons’. She will take up a new post as deputy head at Sanquhar Academy.

The Dumfries facility was shut in September 2018 after a number of incidents in which staff and pupils were hurt – including a child being hit by a smart board. It fully re-opened this summer when secondary pupils made their return.

Current Annan Academy head teacher, Jim Brown, pictured above, will become acting head teacher until the post is filled permanently.

Both Dumfries and Galloway Council and Jim Brown were contacted for comment.
