TEN covid related deaths have now occurred at a care home in Dumfries, while concern is mounting about a cases at a home in Dalbeattie.

Another three deaths have been confirmed at Charnwood Lodge Care Home in Dumfries, bringing their total to ten.

It is run by the charity Community Integrated Care and its staff have been working closely with Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership to ensure all necessary plans and protocols are in place to manage the ongoing outbreak there.

A partnership spokesman said: “Thoughts continue to be with families and with staff at this time.

“Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership (DGHSCP) note that has been a very difficult and distressing situation for all involved, and note the swift action, dedication and commitment of care home operators Community Integrated Care and their colleagues in how they have responded.

“Work was immediately undertaken to contain the spread of Covid-19, and this has not been an easy task against what is an invisible and highly transmissible virus.”

Meanwhile, a range of infection prevention measures have been put in place at the Alma McFadyen Care Centre in Mill Street, Dalbeattie.

In a statement, the home said: “All the staff have worked tirelessly over the year to keep the Alma family safe and it is extremely distressing to everyone that Covid has now found its way through our front door.

“At such times, families gain strength by coming together and that is exactly what we are doing and will continue to do until our home is back to normal.”

DGHSCP are closely monitoring the situation there and a spokesman said: “At present there is a degree of concern over a number of cases of Covid-19 among residents and staff at Alma McFadyen Care Centre in Dalbeattie.

“All visits and admissions to the home have been suspended and a number of additional robust infection prevention measures are being implemented to help stem transmission of the virus.”

The overall number of positive corona cases in Dumfries and Galloway had yesterday reached 935, a rise of 95 in a week.

Five people were reported to be in hospital.
