Cancer cycle chalks up £1500

AN ANNAN businessman who pedalled 250 miles for charity has announced the fundraiser’s grand total.

David Bell, who runs the Annan-based Dats Blinds, this week gave a big thanks to everyone who donated to his ‘Miles for Maggie’s’ challenge, which saw him and his wife, Andrea, raise more than £1500 and clock-up 250 miles across several bike rides last month.

David said: “I only took up cycling during the lockdown last year. I seen the ‘Miles for Maggie’s’ fundraiser challenge on Facebook and I applied to do it, and then my wife applied to do it and we did it together.

“We done it over 15 days – it was enjoyable but challenging at the same time.”

He added that having had family members affected by cancer, he felt compelled to get involved with the nationwide fundraiser.

“My sister died of cancer and my father died of cancer so it’s just a way to bring awareness,” David said.

On Wednesday the couple finished gathering funds online and announced the grand total of £1550 — which will all be donated to cancer charity, Maggie’s, which provides care for those living with the illness.

David thanked “everyones support and determination,” adding: “It’s a good achievement and when everybody’s behind you it helps.”

And he said he intends to carry on cycling after successfully competing the mammoth ride.
