AN animal rights organisation has challenged a school in the region to champion plant farming. PETA have written to Wallace Hall Academy after hearing of their ‘meatbox challenge’, part of the Young Agri Leader programme, which encourages children to buy and sell lambs. The campaigners at PETA are outraged and claim it’s a form of ‘indoctrination’. Now, to balance things, they want the school to roll out a “plantbox challenge” that champions kind, sustainable plant farming. Spokesperson Dawn Carr said: “PETA is urging the school to take cruelty off the curriculum and inspire the next generation of farmers to grow sustainable Scottish plants like oats and fava beans that are kind to animals, the planet and our health.” In addition, PETA revealed they are in discussions with an outdoor advertiser to place a new billboard - above- in the area featuring a butchered animal and a slogan that farmers “love” animals to death. Dawn added: “PETA is urging everyone to leave the violence of animal farming behind and embrace kind, sustainable plant farming that will help the next generation of farmers thrive.”
