Bronze joy for Senga

A KARATE club coach from the region has won bronze at an international competition for the second year in a row.

Senga Baird, of New Abbey, came third in the Female Veterans 35yrs+ category at the British Karate International Open 2015 in Glasgow last month.
There was over 1200 competitors at the event, from 16 countries. It is the biggest championships in Britain.
Sensei Jim Howard, 6th Dan head coach, said: “I was very proud of Senga to get third last year, but to do it again this year is a great achievement.”
She is a coach at Stewartry Karate Club and works with P1-P4 at Castle Douglas High School every Wednesday night and also helps coach at the Kirkcubright, Dalbeattie and New Abbey classes.
