Body of missing GP found

POLICE have found the body of a Lockerbie GP, who had been missing for a week.

The body of Dr George (Alex) Porteous was found in woodland near Beeswing at 11 am this morning.

It has been formally identified and his family have been informed.

Officers say there are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

The doctor, pictured, was 51 and lived in Islesteps. He was reported missing by his family after leaving work at Lockerbie Medical Practice last Tuesday and failing to return home. A major police search was launched for him, resulting in today’s tragic discovery.
