Birthday bash brings in the cash

A GROUP of friends say they are blown away after raising 5239 at a birthday bash for a beloved pal.

Sarah Armstrong, Lauren Frainey, Lucy Williamson, Elgiva Smith, Emma Bell, Tiree Holmes and Bethaney Warwick hosted a party at Gretna Social Club on Saturday night in memory of their friend Kirsty Cooper, who died in 2017 of cancer, aged just 27 at the time.
It was organised to mark what would have been her 30th birthday and to raise money for three charities that were close to radiographer Kirsty’s heart.
The well attended evening featured music from The Green, dancing and a grand prize raffle.
The girls said: “When we started our fundraiser nine months ago, we would never have dreamed we would raise £5239. This has truly blown us away and we will be eternally grateful to everyone who has helped us achieve this.
“We have decided that we will be donating £3000 to the complementary therapy team at the Freeman Hospital. The reason we are donating such a large portion to this team is because they helped Kirsty immensely whilst she was receiving her cancer treatment. She spoke so highly of them and they really did help her through some of her darkest days.
“The remainder of the money will be split between the Bright Red cancer charity and the Freeman Hospital.
“We are so honoured and proud that we are able to present these amazing teams with money that was raised through our love for Kirsty.”
