Beaches are ready for summer

SUMMER season has opened on the region’s beaches.

And beaches in Dumfries and Galloway are ready to welcome locals and visitors.

Seven samples of bathing water have been taken from the Solway area: Rockcliffe was the only beach to obtain an excellent result, while Mossyard, Sandyhills and Southerness achieved a good result; Carrick and Brighouse Bay were sufficient; and finally Dhoon Bay was the only poor result in the country. Work is ongoing to solve the issue through plans for domestic improvements.

Designated bathing waters are regularly sampled by SEPA throughout the season.

Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland, said: “Scotland’s coastline is home to many stunning beaches and bathing water classifications provide helpful guidance for visitors.”

For advice on how to stay safe at the beach visit the RLNI and Water Safety Scotland web pages. Latest updates on water quality are posted online by SEPA throughout the season.
