Bangs heard near break in house

JEWELLERY, a DVD player and an electronic tablet were among the items stolen from a house in Dumfries yesterday.

Police are investigating the break in at a house on Barnton Road, which happened sometime overnight Sunday to Monday.

And officers have revealed that banging noises were heard near the location between 1am and 2 am that morning.

At this stage it is not fully known what else has been stolen.

Constable Paul Murphy said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in the Barnton Road area over this period. We would also remind the public that Police Scotland are happy to take calls at any time of the day or night, through 101, in relation to anything suspicious that the public might want to report.  We would rather check out a call which turned out to be a false alarm at the time, than get a call at a later time which may take longer to investigate.”

Meanwhile, there was another attempt to break into a property in Annan Road in the town at about 2.15 this morning. Police say it was a ‘noisy attempt’ which resulted in the householder being awoken and a door getting badly damaged.

Anyone with information should contact Constable Gillian Carson of Police Scotland on 101.
