Author Steph celebrates book launch
LAUNCH . . . author Steph Newham introduces her new book yesterday

Steph Newham marked the release of her new book, which is a collection of short stories titled Lady with Edelweiss, by holding a book launch at Lockerbie Library on Thursday morning.

After completing an MA in creative writing at Lancaster University, her work, published by Austin Macauley, is designed to make readers think. The characters that Steph has created are recognisable and contain unexpected depths.

In worlds where personal psychology and the mundane get tangled – and sometimes disrupt and corrupt, Steph said: “I like to write things that will make people think.

“It is quite funny really, once they started marketing the book my friends started telling me how it was available around the world. It’s absolutely amazing.”

AUDIENCE . . . there was a good turnout for the book launch

And Steph is already embarking on a second collection of short stories alongside a historical novel.

The author started writing following her retirement from the NHS where she worked as a nurse and latterly in mental health support and counselling.

Unwilling to be fazed by her dyslexia, Steph was the chairperson of Lockerbie Writers Group for a number of years. She has had articles published in newspapers, short stories in an anthology and in online magazines. She has also run workshops encouraging others to develop their own writing skills.

Lady with Edelweiss is available now at all major book retailers.
