Area's sports stars set to be chosen

The annual event will take place on Friday April 26 at the Buccleuch Centre in Langholm and there are a total of nine different awards up for grabs. Anyone can put forward a person or a team to be nominated along with individuals behind the scenes, who provide the backbone to sports clubs throughout the region. And nominees will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Canonbie cyclist Ellie Dickinson, pictured, who scooped the Sports Personality of the Year prize at last year's ceremony. The list of categories are: Sports Personality Of The Year Young Sports Personality Of The Year Sports Team Of The Year Coach Of The Year Volunteer Of The Year Lifetime Achievement School Sport Initiative Or Performance Of The Year (Small School) School Sport Initiative Or Performance Of The Year (Large School) Young Persons Closing date for nominations is Friday March 1 and all nominees will be invited to attend. A record total of 67 nominations were received for the 2017 ceremony.
