A MAN has been found guilty by a jury of assaulting two women on various occasions during a 13 year period, including pushing the head of one under the water in a bath and holding it there to the danger of her life.

The jury at Dumfries Sheriff Court yesterday delivered the verdict on Brian Irvine, 51, of Thomas Street, Annan, at the end of a six day trial in which he had maintained a plea of not guilty to a total of four charges which took place between October 2000 and December 2013.
He was found guilty of the bath assault at Westgill Square in Annan in 2013 and also repeatedly punching and kicking the same woman at the same address and at nearby Shawhill Road between January 2012 an December 2013, inserting his fingers into her eye and putting his hands round her neck and compressing it.
The jury, who were out for over three hours, also found him guilty of assaulting another woman at Glint Wynd and Charles Street  and in Vancouver Drive, Eastriggs, by repeatedly punching and kicking her on the body, slapping her on the face and knocking her onto the ground on a number of occasions between October 2000 and December 2008.
Sheriff Brian Mohan called for background reports and deferred sentence to October 20.
