Annan 'bully' jailed for 30 months

A TWICE married Annan man who pushed one wife's head under the water in a bath and held it there to the danger of her life has been described in court as a 'bully and terrorist to both wives'.

And Brian Irvine, of Thomas Street, was on Wednesday jailed for 30 months for assault.

He had been found guilty by a jury of four charges of assaulting the two women during a 13 year period up to December 2013.
The bath assault took place at Westgill Square in Annan that December and the jury had heard that Irvine also repeatedly punched and kicked the same woman at the same address and at nearby Shawhill Road during the previous two years, inserting his fingers into her eye and putting his hands round her neck and compressing it.
During the six-day trial the court heard how he also assaulted the first woman at Glint Wynd and Charles Street in Annan and at Vancouver Drive in Eastriggs by repeatedly punching and kicking her on the body, slapping her on the face and knocking her onto the ground on a number of occasions between October 2000 and December 2008.
Sheriff Brian Mahon said the verdict of the jury reflected the bullying nature of Irvine and there was no option to a custodial sentence.
