Animal hospital in help plea

DONATIONS are being sought to help a poorly duckling get back on his feet.

The South of Scotland Wildlife Hospital is currently looking after the baby bird whose leg injury means he is unable to stand properly. The team have made him a hammock with a built in water bowl and poop hole, which he is using under supervision. He is also having water therapy.

The duckling is just one of many creatures the centre at the Barony campus in Parkgate is caring for just now.

In a statement on social media, they said: “We are absolutely inundated with baby birds and other wildlife at the moment which is sending our bills sky high.

“We are desperate for live regular mealworms, meaty cat food in jelly, frozen mice. We are also using an enormous amount of greens like kale, spinach and watercress for our waterfowl patients.”

They have a donation basket outside the hospital door, which can be accessed 24 hours, and have also set up an Amazon wishlist and an account at Blendbetter pet foods.
