Boost for squash

A CASH boost is set to help squash rollout in schools.

Lockerbie Squash and Racketball Club in Lockerbie has been handed a grant from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland, which will be used to deliver the sport to schools across Annandale and Eskdale.

The sum of £4906, from the lottery’s community fund in partnership with SportScotland, will fund a partnership between the club and local primary and secondary schools whereby 20 weeks of daily coaching activities will be available to children.

Harry Earl, of Lockerbie Squash and Racketball Club, said: “This grant will allow the local schools to benefit from the Lockerbie Squash and Racketball Club schools project.

“This long term coaching project, with help from Active Schools, will give pupils many fun events, help them socialise, make friends and will help promote the physical and mental health benefits of playing a sport to all the pupils who attend.”

And looking to the future of sport in Scotland, Stewart Harris, chief executive of SportScotland, said: “This is extremely welcome news at a time where there are plenty of challenges across the sporting sector.

“This investment from The National Lottery will make a huge difference.”
