£24m to run region's GPs

GP practices in the region were paid £24.8 million last year to provide services locally.

That’s equivalent to £163.40 per person.

There are 119 GPs working in Dumfries and Galloway, down from 159 ten years ago, and 48 of them are female and 71 male.

As of October, there were 32 practices treating a combined total of 154,430 patients.

The biggest are Gillbrae Medical Practice and Greyfriars Medical Centre, both in Dumfries, with 12,507 patients and 11,880 respectively.

They each got £1.3 million in 2018-19.

Meanwhile, the smallest surgery in the region was at Mull of Galloway, with 714 patients. It received a £102,508 payment.
