War memorial damaged

VANDALS have wreaked havoc at the war memorial in Sanquhar.

Police are appealing for information after a statue of a woman sitting on a bench was daubed with paint and poppies were pulled from the ground and strewn around.

They want the community to help identify those responsible for the incident, which was flagged up on Tuesday afternoon.

Constable Leanne Hamilton said: “It seems incredible and very sad that anyone would contemplate carrying out such a wanton act of vandalism.  The community will be rightly outraged by this act and I would ask that anyone who has any information about who carried out this act call us at Sanquhar on the 101 number, quoting the reference PDG 0046770318.”
