They say the property was entered between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm on Monday when a number of items were stolen.

The haul included a 36″ flat screen TV, mobile phone and items of hairdressing equipment.

PC Caillie Douce of Stranraer Police said: “Investigations are at an early stage, however, I would be keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone in the area acting suspiciously.

“That includes anyone seen carrying a TV or offering hairdressing equipment for sale.”

MEANWHILE, officers are investigating what is considered a suspicious fire in the town in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the outbreak at 1.45 am in an electricity meter box at flats in Lochdale, Stranraer.

Police spokeswoman, PC Beth Williamson, said: “This was an extremely dangerous act and the consequences could have been catastrophic had the fire not been extinguished in time.

“The meter has been made safe and electricity restored.”

She added: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in or around the flat.”

Anyone who can help with information on either incident is asked to contact Stranraer Police Station on the non-emergency telephone number 101.
