Beacons celebrate Queen's birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY . . . a large crowd gathered at a number of beacons and bonfires in south west Scotland on Thursday night to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday.

They were part of a network across the UK and Commonwealth which were lit after the first beacon was lit in front of Her Majesty at Windsor Castle.

This bonfire, pictured, organised by Tinwald Community Council, took place on The Barr Hill, overlooking Amisfield, near Dumfries.

It was lit by well-known local residents Flora Little and Tom Brown and among those attending was the Scotland Secretary, local MP David Mundell
