Driver dies after Dumfries accident

AN ELDERLY man, whose car left the road at the Cornwall Mount roundabout, Dumfries on Saturday morning later died in hospital.

His vehicle collided with a parked car on the forecourt at the Crossflags Mini garage, close to the regional police HQ, around 10.40 am.

First aid was rendered at the scene and an ambulance called.

The busy road was closed to traffic for several hours to allow an accident investigation to take place.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said that it is understood the driver, who was 72 and from the local area, took seriously ill at the wheel of the car.
