THE countdown is on for Scotland's largest performing rural arts festival, which kicks off in the region next week.

The Scottish Ensemble will bring From Russia With Love to the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries next Friday ñ heralding the start of a ten-day programme packed with theatre, music, comedy, dance, literature and film.
And following a £30,000 investment from Dumfries and Galloway Council, highlights include comedy from television funnymen Hardeep Singh Kohli and Des Clarke, world-acclaimed theatrical performances, a diverse programme of top quality music and a lively festival fringe.
Councillor Colin Smyth, who is the council’s events champion, said: “The council is delighted to fund this rich and diverse arts festival programme that I am sure will entertain thousands of people across Dumfries and Galloway at the end of this month.
Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival takes place between May 22 and 31 and full programme details are available at www.dgartsfestival.org.uk
