Every little helped make store best fundraiser in UK

GENDER swap days, sponsored silences and singathons helped Tesco Cuckoo Bridge become the most charitable store in the UK last year.

Staff at the Dumfries supermarket received awards yesterday after collecting over £21,000 for Tesco’s chosen charity Diabetes UK last year, making them the biggest fundraisers of all UK Tesco stores.

Community champion Anne Croucher explained that fundraising was ongoing throughout the year with staff taking on personal challenges such as sponsored silences and singing all day for customers.

One duo of workers even played dressup and swapped genders for the day.

Thrilled at the total raised, Anne said: “It’s great obviously and our manager was amazed when he found out we had raised more than any other Tesco store.

“But it’s not just about the money, it’s nice to get the whole community involved in fundraising and our customers are really to thank for the tremendous amount of money we raised, soabig thank you to them too for their support.”

So far this year the Cuckoo Bridge team have raised roughly £5000 for charities Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation and Anne is hopeful the team can beat last year’s total to come out on top again.
