Youth council election results

THE results of Dumfries and Galloway’s Youth Elections have been announced.

Over 2,800 young people had their say with polling stations set up across secondary schools, library and leisure facilities and youth centres, resulting in the election of four members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs), 24 ward youth councillors, eight nominated youth councillors.

The following young people have been elected to represent Dumfries and Galloway in the Scottish Youth Parliament, who are elected to represent the voices of young people aged 12-25 on a national level.

  • Freya Latta, Galloway and West Dumfries
  • Poppy Kemp, Galloway and West Dumfries

The region’s new ward youth councillors, and are responsible for engaging with, and representing young people who live, work and study in their community, they are:

  • Emma Halliday, Stranraer and the Rhins
  • Steven Wright, Stranraer and the Rhins
  • Sophie Cluckie, Mid Galloway and Wigtown West
  • Max Heughan, Mid Galloway and Wigtown West
  • Joshua Wells, Dee and Glenkens
  • Sean Watling, Dee and Glenkens
  • Conall Hawthorne, Castle Douglas and Crocketford
  • Oscar Rennie, Castle Douglas and Crocketford
  • Amber Lord, Abbey
  • Lily Rose Morris, Abbey
  • Chelsay McDill, North West Dumfries
  • Ryan McLaughlan, North West Dumfries
  • Teodora Callimac, Lochar
  • Noah Sheard, Lochar
  • Joel Goldsworthy, Mid and Upper Nithsdale
  • Xenia Iden, Mid and Upper Nithsdale
  • Abi Hart, Nith
  • Emilia Bartlett, Nith
  • Lydia-Elizabeth Shaw, Annandale South
  • Connor Christie, Annandale North
  • Naomi Scott, Annandale North
  • Luke Graham, Annandale East and Eskdale
The final grouping of young people have been elected as Nominated Youth Councillors, who are responsible for representing the voices of young people who are seldom heard in decision making:
  • Beth Blythe, Additional Support Needs and Disabilities Youth Councillor
  • Kelly Hart, Care Experienced Youth Councillor
  • Lewis Beck, LGBT Youth Councillor
  • Rebecca Dargie, Young Carer Youth Councillor
Speaking about the elections Cllr Tracey Little, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Education, Skills and Community Wellbeing Committee said: "Congratulations to all of the new elects who have been successful in their election efforts, and commiserations to those who have not had the outcome they wanted. I look forward to seeing everything you will achieve in the 2 years ahead”
