Cash Access UK have lodged plans to transform 68 High Street, formerly Dunnabie Farm Shop, into a facility where people can access cash and face-to-face banking services.

The identified building has not been in use since February last year when it was ravaged by fire. Workers are currently busy renovating the property.

Cash Access UK is a not-for-profit organisation, funded by major high street banks.

When Bank of Scotland announced they would be closing their Annan branch the organisation sprang into action.

Cash Access’ plans for the new premises includes a full retail fill-out of the vacant unit.

Works include the installation of an ATM, signage and external fabric; minor partitions to form secure offices; the installation of furniture; internal services; and redecoration.

A Cash Access UK spokeswoman said: “Our team is working hard to progress plans for the banking hub in Annan which is due to open at the beginning of next year.

“We’re hopeful that, subject to contracts and recently submitted plans being approved, work can get underway to get the hub up and running soon.

“Once it’s opened, customers of all major banks will be able to visit any day of the week for their everyday banking transactions, and if you have a more complex enquiry for your bank, a community banker will be there to help on the day they’re in the hub.”

Cash Access regional manager Lesley Wilson attended Annan Community Council’s May meeting.

At the time, she said: “We have to be up and running before January next year. At the moment we are taking our leases for a minimum of ten years.

“It doesn’t matter about footfall. It’s very much on how we can increase services for the community.”

Lesley explained how five to six million people in the UK continue to rely on cash and face to face banking.

It was also noted the hub does not currently have plans for a night-safe, however, this feature could be added in the future.
