Town and village go head to head for champion prize
TWO war memorials in Annandale have made it through to the national supreme finals, taking place today.
Annan and Kirkpatrick Fleming, above, are both representing the region, and the wider Glasgow and Ayrshire area, at the Legion Scotland Best Kept War Memorial awards in Edinburgh.
Annan was the national winner of the large community without gardens category, while Kirkpatrick Fleming has the national all title.
And now they are going head to head for the champion of champions prize, due to be announced at 11.30 am at New Haig House.
Representatives of each community will also get the chance to tour the Lady Haig Poppy Factory during today’s celebrations.

Wishing them luck, Annandale East and Eskdale Cllr Archie Dryburgh MBE, who is also the council’s veteran’s champion, said: “Every year the competition gets more entries and we would love to see more next year.
“As the Guardian of Remembrance, this is one competition that our area send more entries than the other four areas and we hope our area receives the best area prize as well.
“We want to thank all communities for excellent support and work to get their war memorials recognised.”
