Teens slammed for breaking lockdown

USED condoms, drug bags and smashed glass are just some of the sickening sights that have been found outside a Locharbriggs pub.

Kieran White took over the lease of The Lochar Inn last year and since then, with friend Benny Mullen at his side, he has been bringing it into the 21st century with a makeover inside and out.

But the pair’s hard work has been knocked by a group of young teens who have taken to using the newly built beer garden area as a den for drinking, drug taking and sex.

Manager Benny yesterday said: “It is just so annoying.

“A lot of time and money has been spent, a small fortune really, and then this happens.

“I’ve warned them off a couple of times and just get abuse back.

“We’ve found used condoms, little bags for drugs, all sorts.

“And I’ve had to start parking my car round the back because they’ve been smashing their drink bottles.

“I grew up in Locharbriggs, I went out with my mates but if my parents thought I was up to anything like this they would be furious.

“Where do these kids’ parents think they are?”

The pair have spent weeks transforming the inside and outside of the Edinburgh Road pub and managed to enjoy five busy weeks of business before lockdown in December.

They have launched a takeaway menu and hope to become a real heart of the community as the only pub in Locharbriggs.

Their efforts have been praised by many Dumfries residents, and Benny said that when news of the damage reached some of their regulars they were flooded with offers of help to repair the damage free of charge.

Unfortunately reviewing CCTV has not helped but Police Scotland has been contacted.
