Surveys to be carried out along pipeline route
SURVEYS will be carried out along the effluent pipeline route that runs through Annan next week by Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) at Chapelcross. The pipeline route is a popular area for local residents, often used for dog walking and exercise. And during the survey period, members of the public may notice a small team conducting surveys using portable equipment. These surveys are part of a wider programme of reassurance testing to monitor ground conditions around the legacy infrastructure. The pipelines have been in place for several decades and, while they have undergone various upgrades and maintenance over the years, NRS is committed to ensuring responsible land quality management. Officials say this type of survey is standard practice across the nuclear estate and helps provide ongoing reassurance to the community. Public access to the pipeline route will remain open throughout the survey work. Any short-term access controls that may be required for safety will be clearly marked and kept to a minimum. The equipment used is passive and there is no risk to public health from the survey itself. Chapelcross site Director Richard Murray said: “We understand how important the pipeline is to our local community, and we want to reassure everyone that these surveys are a routine part of our commitment to safe practices and responsible stewardship. “We’re proud to be open and transparent in everything we do, and we’ll continue to keep the community informed as we carry out this important work.”
