Shutters down on bank
ANOTHER bank has closed its doors in Annan.
Bank of Scotland revealed their intentions to close the Annan branch in February last year, blaming increases in mobile, internet and telephone banking.
And at the start of this week the doors were closed for the final time.
Between 2019 and 2024, personal and business customer transactions at the Annan branch were found to be down 37 per cent and 40 per cent.
All workers affected by closures were offered alternative roles.
A number of services will be available at the Annan Banking Hub at 52 High Street.
Hubs are a shared banking space, similar to a traditional bank branch, but available to everyone.
It has a counter service operated by Post Office employees, where customers of any bank can withdraw and deposit cash, make bill payments and carry out regular banking transactions.
In addition, there will be private spaces where customers can speak to community bankers from their own bank for more complicated matters that require specialist knowledge or privacy.
Bank of Scotland’s nearest branch is now on Dumfries High Street.
