DECEMBER is turning out to be a memorable month for photographer Shona Dickson.

She is snap happy after finding out she’s a finalist in the Society of Photographers awards.

She has been nominated for Photographer of the Year 2025 in the creative portrait category for her clown image, above.

A shocked and delighted Shona, who lives near Langholm, said: “This one’s extra special because I made parts of the costume, did the makeup, and the model is my son.

“Huge thanks to The Society of Photographers, the judges, and everyone who supports my work and creative madness.

“No matter what happens next, this nomination alone feels like a massive win. Still slightly in shock and very grateful.”

And there was more good news this week when she made the UK Team in the World Photographic Cup (WPC) with another of her images.

The WPC is an Olympic style event featuring the best photographers from all over the globe, representing their countries.

It doesn’t stop there as earlier this month Shona was named as an image of the year finalist, in the avant garde category with the Guild of Photographers for her Smoking Kills picture.

“To have this piece acknowledged among so much incredible work truly blows me away,” she said.

“I’m so grateful and more inspired than ever to keep creating.”
