HAVING been open for over a year, Gretna Scout Group – 15th Dumfriesshire – is on the hunt for new members.

Beavers, cubs and adult volunteers are all being recruited.

Beaver scouts section team leader Helen King said: “Gretna Scout Group has been open now for over a year with a thriving Beaver section (6-8-year-olds) and is now opening a Cub section (8-10-year-olds) this term.

“Throughout the past year, the beavers have achieved between them over 200 badges, with nine being awarded their Chief Scout Bronze Award at the end of last term – the highest award a Beaver can obtain!”

Activities have included litter picking around the town, attending Remembrance Day events, learning basic sewing, tying knots and first aid, as well playing games, going on trips to the local registry office, Dalscone and Gretna Green Blacksmith’s shop.

Helen added: “With our Cub Pack opening this term, we plan to offer them just as an exciting and varied programme of activities!

“Anyone can join Scouts, from the smallest of Beavers to the tallest of adults. If you want to have fun, grow in confidence as well as learn new skills (adults included), and want to be part of a local, national and worldwide community, then come and join us.

“We celebrate every achievement, no matter how small, we help those that need it and work hard to earn our badges!”
