A NEW slot car club is set to get underway in Annandale next month.

The first session of Eaglesfield Scalextric Club will take place on Saturday May 16 at the village hall.

On the day there will be three tracks set up – simple, fast and rally. And those aged between 18-80+ are welcome to come along and have a go, regardless of experience.

Roger Wilson, who moved to the village six years ago with his wife, has started the club.

He wanted to create something where people could go to have fun and socialise, with very few barriers to entry – you only require hand grip in order to pull the trigger on the hand-held throttle.

Roger said: “I had a set for all of my teenage years, I sold it and got back into it about 20 years ago. I had this brainwave last year about doing a Scalextric Club.”

Thanks to a grant from Solwaybank Wind Farm, Roger, 64, is set to hold monthly meetings after the inaugural day in May.

He said: “The village hall has been very supportive.

“Now we have got the money from the windfarm I hope we can start doing monthly sessions as a minimum.

“On the 16th of May three tracks will be made up, and if enough people come we can get a group to set a fourth track up.

“It’s open to all. I would also like to hear feedback on when people would like to have future meetings.”
