Sarah’s stepping out ?to raise awareness
A FUN run in Annan at the end of next month will raise awareness around eating disorders.
Sarah Thompson is in full recovery after struggling with an eating disorder for the last four years.
These complex mental illnesses can affect anyone. Right now, at least 1.25 million people in the UK have an eating disorder, but there is hope.
The 27-year-old, who volunteers at Kate’s Kitchen, wants to raise awareness around the condition, show that support is available and recovery is possible.
Sarah has also managed to raise more than £500 so far for Beat – the UK’s eating disorder charity.
On Saturday June 27 at 12 pm children and adults of all ages are welcome to attend the Everholm running track to run, walk, skip or jog a mile.
Games, activities and free snacks will follow at Kate’s Kitchen from 1 pm. There will also be an information board sharing lived experiences with eating disorders and where to get support.
Sarah said: “I had the idea at the start of the year to do a sponsored run. I asked Kate’s Kitchen if they would support my idea, and since then they have been supportive every step of the way.
“It’s a mile around the running track and then afterwards at Kate’s Kitchen we are going to have a few games to raise money.
“A mile might not seem like a lot but for those with an eating disorder it is.
“We are also going to have information about where to go to get help.”
All are invited to come along on June 27, family members and pets are also welcome. Children taking part will receive a medal, while certificates are on offer for those who raise more than £30 for Beat.
