APRIL 1 has been announced as the opening date for the new look ground floor of Annan Museum.

The displays will focus on Annan the town, with the river, the Royal Burgh and the Riding of the Marches all featured.

The centrepiece will be a life sized horse with a rider and attendant in AROM uniforms, while behind it there will be a screen with old film footage of the event.

There will also be displays of old programmes, rosettes and sashes along with the throne/chair on which the Queen is crowned, the snuff box and more.

Stuart Thompson MBE, convenor of ROM, said: "We are very excited with these plans which we feel will better represent the significance of AROM in the town and its history."

And he has made an appeal for further items relating to the traditional summer event.

"We do not currently have any jackets, hats, trousers, boots or other items of clothing worn by past principals and we would like to request these items," said Stuart.

"We would like to represent the Queen of the Border by having a dress and crown on display (if anyone has one they would be willing to share). We would welcome more sashes and rosettes too, or any material that anyone has that relates to AROM.

"These items could be donated to the museum or loaned to it. It is entirely up to the person who owns them now how they wish to proceed."

He can be contacted on 07901 710559, or email the curator at [email protected].
