THE team behind Annan Riding of the Marches’ Raft Race are swapping the river for the streets of Annan next week. Santa and his band of helpers will be taking a sleigh around the town between Sunday and Wednesday. However, they will not be delivering gifts but instead collecting donations for food banks in the town. The team are collecting tins and packets of food which will then be distributed via Kate’s Kitchen and Annan Day Centre to those in need this Christmas. George Campbell, joint convener of Annan RoM, said: “As an organisation, we are very grateful for the support our community gives us when it comes to organising our annual celebrations. “We are aware of the extra burden our local charities have at this time of year and we would like to help out and give back to the community. “We are extremely proud of the raft race team for setting up this initiative.” The team will be visiting as many streets in the following areas as possible. You can listen out for the sleigh arriving near you and, where possible, the organisers ask for a donation any sort of long-life food. If the team are unable to make it to your street, they have a collection point set up at Leeann’s Tropical Tanning on Scott’s Street. Areas to be visited: Sunday, December 7, 3 pm to 8 pm: Welldale and Hecklegirth. Monday, December 8, 5 pm to 8 pm: Newington. Tuesday, December 9, 5 pm to 8 pm: Galabank. Wednesday, December 10, 5 pm to 8 pm: Central Annan.
