AN Annan optometrist has been nominated for the Optometrist of the Year title at the upcoming Scottish Optometry Awards.

Kieran McGrath, lead optometrist at independent practice Kidner Opticians has been recognised for his outstanding clinical skill, leadership, and commitment to patient care.

Since joining Kidners, Kieran has played a key role in guiding the practice through a period of transformation by embracing new technologies and expanding clinical services.

Changes include introducing enhanced services as a standard part of their testing, including revolutionary OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scanning. The hospital-grade technology provides detailed 3D imaging of the retina and allows for earlier detection of some conditions.

Managing director Peter Telfer said: “Kieran has played an instrumental part in improving the standards of care that we provide to our community.

“His passion for patient education and his ability to explain complex findings in a clear, reassuring way make him an exceptional optometrist.”

Alongside his clinical work, Kieran is also completing his independent prescribing qualification, which will enable him to treat a wider range of eye conditions directly in practice.

He said: “I’m truly honoured to be nominated for Optometrist of the Year. It’s a reflection of the incredible team we have here in Annan and the support of our patients, who make this job so rewarding.

“My goal has always been to make sure people in our community have access to the very best eye care and technology close to home, and I hope we can remain at the forefront of the industry for many years to come.”

The winners of the awards will be announced on November 15.
