New management for two GP surgeries

A MEDICAL group is set to take-over running doctors surgeries in Moffat and Lockerbie.

It’s been announced that Lanarkshire Medical Group will begin providing primary medical services at Moffat Surgery and Lockerbie Medical Practice, which combined serve around 9800 patients.

The medical centres received three different bids after being put out for tender by Dumfries and Galloway’s health board.

The procurement means there will be no change for patients registered with the surgeries, however, the contract award notice states the continued use of the existing premises just off Moffat High Street and at Victoria Gardens in Lockerbie would be “subject to further discussion with the owners”.

The notice adds the change of management is “an excellent opportunity” to improve health outcomes in the towns and that Lanarkshire Medical Group will be expected to offer “a range of additional and enhanced services” to patients.

In 2018/19, hundreds of Lockerbie patients were transferred to Lochmaben Medical Group in a bid to ease the burden on the struggling practice.
