A DUMFRIES author has released her second children’s book inspired by the adventures of her own rescue cat.

And Jan Falconer, above, hopes ‘Sukie Queen of Cats: Finding Her Paw Prints’ will continue to capture the imagination of young readers and their families.

The first book in the series, Sukie Queen of Cats: I Choose My Family!, became an Amazon bestseller in the UK, America and Canada.

The new story, which features illustrations by Monique Scott, follows Sukie again as she explores unfamiliar surroundings, makes mistakes, learns from them and gradually finds the confidence to leave her own paw prints behind.

Jan said: “Like many of us, Sukie is curious but cautious. She moves forward, pauses, looks around and then takes another step. The story is really about finding the confidence to explore new places and discover what we’re capable of.”

She revealed that many of her characters adventures are inspired by real-life events. One memorable incident involved an encounter with fish manure which resulted in an emergency bath and a thoroughly unimpressed cat.

Sukie, who inspired the series, was adopted through Cats Protection and remains a much-loved member of the Falconer family.

The book, which celebrates confidence, curiosity, family reading and storytelling, is now available online through Amazon and via Jan’s website.
