May closing date for High Street betting shop
AN ANNAN bookies is set to close next month, becoming the latest casualty on the town’s High Street. Staff at betting shop William Hill, at 80 High Street, are currently involved in consultation and it is understood they will be offered redeployment elsewhere in the company. Closure comes after Evoke plc, the bookmakers’ parent company, carried out a review of their operations. An Evoke spokesperson said: “Following a thorough review and further to increased cost pressures on the regulated sector, we have made the decision to close our William Hill shop in Annan in May 2026. “We would like to thank local customers and the community for playing with us, and hope to see them at one of our other stores - or online - soon.” William Hill’s closure will see another vacant unit appear in the town centre – as on Wednesday evening The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) closed its doors for the final time. The team at TOFS expressed thanks to all who had supported them throughout their time in Annan.
