Police said there were no reports of any injuries, however, they confirmed the road surface had sustained damage and it was subsequently closed until the following morning.

Traffic was diverted through Annan all morning and throughout the afternoon, causing delays for drivers, as emergency services and clean up crews dealt with the incident.

At time of this newspaper being printed, the A75 was still closed with no update of when it would re-open.

Our picture shows the lorry in question parked in a lay-by as fire crews directed foam at the contents in its trailer. It is understood that the truck had been taken away from the scene at 1 pm yesterday.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.09 am on Thursday, July 17 to reports of a lorry fire near Annan.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the A75, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe.

“There were no casualties.”
