COMMUNITIES surrounding the former Chapelcross nuclear power station are being invited to play an active role in shaping proposals for a new technology campus.

CX Technology Campus has launched a programme of early-stage engagement as it develops plans for a proposed net-zero campus that would bring together digital infrastructure, clean energy and skills facilities on the site. The project remains at an early stage, with environmental studies underway ahead of a Planning Permission in Principle submission, with detailed applications following at a future time.

A series of public consultation events will take place in Annan and Creca in May and June, giving local residents and stakeholders the opportunity to meet the project team, review the emerging proposals and provide feedback.

They will take place at Creca Hall on Tuesday 16 June from 5-7 pm, and at Victoria Halls on Wednesday 17 June from 4-7 pm.

David Young, director of engineering and design for CX Technology Campus, said: The proposed campus would be located on land to the north of the former power station and could deliver data centres, energy infrastructure and training facilities. The development will support employment, skills and supply chain opportunities over the long term, building on the site’s existing role in energy and infrastructure.

Engagement will continue beyond the initial consultation events, with further opportunities for communities and stakeholders to provide input as the project progresses. Responses will inform the Environmental Impact Assessment and the preparation of a future planning application.
