AFTER failing English O-Level in school, inspiration to write poems hit Eastriggs man Keith Bacon some years later.
Speaking to the Annandale Observer this week, he explained that he picked writing up later in life than one might have expected.
The retired civil servant revealed that he has written a lot of poetry since he first started, with more than two dozen completed on a large range of different subjects and topics.
Keith says his pieces can almost be seen as very “tongue-and-cheek” and “almost in principle”.
As for his inspiration, it comes from a wide range of different things, and much of his work can be viewed in a sense of political importance, he says.
Just like any novelist, he goes through dry periods where inspiration can be hard to come by. However, when out walking he may see something and have an epiphany of what to write next, as thoughts come to him naturally.
There may be occasions too when he may not have the energy or time to write for weeks on end, but he said that inspiration can just come to him in a natural instant.
He also said he can be inspired by song lyrics, and often ones that can also be construed as political or important for the time we are in; such as King Crimson and their song Epitaph from 1969.
