Dumfries IIs 1-9 Rottenrow IIIs DUMFRIES Hockey Club's men's 2s played their first Sunday game of the season last weekend. Unfortunately, the game could not have got off to a worse start when the Rottenrow forward received a quick pass and scored with less than 30 seconds gone. The first quarter continued with some fast play from the opposition and a further two goals. The second quarter was a much better performance from Dumfries, who had a couple of opportunities from short corners and also open play, but either put their shots wide or the Rottenrow keeper saved well. Halftime 0-5. After some words of encouragement, Dumfries continued to have some excellent build up play in the third and fourth quarters, but still could not find that all elusive goal. Then, with only seconds to play, the ball came to Max Dunlop who struck a hard, rising shot from the top of the D, the defender glanced the ball but it flew into the top of the goal to give Dumfries a consolation. Dumfries IIs 0 - 1 Clydesdale VIs IT was a much closer contest for the team at home to Clydesdale 6s on Saturday. The KGV side were looking to consolidate their recent good form and show how they have improved since the heavy loss on their away game against the Dale. Dumfries started well and had some good play without troubling the away keeper. The second quarter continued in the same vein, with the score 0-0 at halftime. The Dale came out much more determined and had much more of the ball in the third quarter. The constant pressure meant that Calum in goals had to make some really good saves to keep his side in the game. However, from a short corner, the deadlock was unfortunately broken by the Dale after a hard shot slotted into the goal when the post was left unmarked. The final quarter started with Dumfries knowing that they were still in the match and looking for a goal. There were several great passages of team play, however, the goal that their performance deserved did not come.
