LOCKERBIE Medical Practice is expanding to take on Canonbie too.

Dr Kashif Ahmad and Dr Michael Ramsden have been successful in their bid to take over the contract for delivering services at the village surgery.

The pair say they are committed to a smooth transition and to building on the very strong foundations already in place, while also continuing to deliver excellent care in Lockerbie.

Dr Ramsden said: “We understand how important local healthcare is to the people of Canonbie, and we’re honoured to take on this responsibility. Our focus will be on maintaining continuity as well as supporting the community’s wellbeing.”

They also emphasised the value of a multi-disciplinary team approach, aligned with Scotland’s evolving GP contract, where patients are supported by healthcare professionals suited to their needs.

Dr Ahmad added: “By working closely with patients and staff and embracing a team-based model, we believe we can deliver care that is both effective and sustainable.”

NHS Dumfries and Galloway will continue to work closely with the new leadership team to support the transition and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for local patients.

Spokesperson Linda Bunney said: “We’re pleased that Drs Ahmad and Ramsden will bring their experience and dedication to Canonbie Surgery.

“Their ongoing commitment to patient care in Lockerbie gives us confidence the community will continue to receive sustainable, high-quality services.”
