Golden award for Annan school
ANNAN Academy ended the year on a high with some golden news.
The secondary school first achieved the Silver LGBT Youth Scotland Award in February 2020.
Three years later they embarked upon a journey to meet the standards required for the gold level.
And last week the school received the news that it has passed the LGBT Charter at gold level.
In an update, Annan Academy said: “The school has worked really hard over the last couple of years to make it the best place possible for LGBTQIA+ young people and staff.
“We are thrilled to have this award. Some of our evidence has been selected by the judging panel to be shared nationwide as exemplars. “From August, the LGBT Charter Gold mark will be proudly displayed on our school letterhead alongside the schools other achievements. The certificate can be viewed in the school office.
“This recognition would not have been possible without the incredible dedication and hard work of Mrs Galbraith and the GSA group.
“Mrs Galbraith has gone above and beyond in leading this initiative, investing a great deal of time, effort, and passion to ensure our values are not only spoken but truly lived.”
The school also raised £72 for SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) through a competition run by the GSA. And they boosted the their Ally Pledge with another 150 signatures.
The Ally Pledge is a virtual document that pupils and staff can sign to show their kindness and support for everyone in the school community regardless of their age, ability, gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.
