ALL things woolly and wild will be the focus of a new creative event in the region next week. The first Wool, Woven and Wild Festival is taking place in Langholm on February 27-28. And the organisers are promising ‘a vibrant showcase of all things woolly, woven, and wild’, which they hope to make an annual celebration. There will be talks on various aspects of sheep farming, from traditional methods to modern practices; textile practitioners will lead community workshops; and there will be guided tours of local farms and businesses, offering a unique behind-the-scenes look. More than 50 vendors have been lined up to bring along products ranging from wool and textiles to nature-inspired goods and local foods. Organiser Emma Duncan said: “Our festival programme is brimming with exciting activities. “This is a fantastic opportunity to explore Langholm’s rich wool heritage, experience its vibrant textile creativity, and appreciate its remarkable natural landscape. A place where craft, agriculture, and landscape are deeply connected. We hope to foster conversations around sustainability, heritage, and creative practice through this event.” Hosted by Creation Mill CIC, it will take place at their centre within Buccleuch Mills, running from 10 am to 4 pm each day. Entry is free thanks to sponsorship by Dumfries and Galloway Council, although donations will be welcomed. Find out more at www.creationmill.org/wwwfestival
